
Fr. Peter M. Jaramillo, SSA, Pastor of St. Mary’s-St. Anthony’s
Fr. Peter M. Jaramillo is the pastor of St. Mary’s-St. Anthony’s Church. In addition, to his responsibilities at St. Mary’s-St. Anthony’s, he is also the pastor at Holy Family Church and St. John the Baptist, both located in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. Fr. Peter is also a member of the Society of St. Augustine, and is the vocations director of that community here in KCK.
Jaramillo, was born and raised in Topeka, KS, he is the son of John and Guadalupe Jaramillo, who reside in the Oakland community. Fr. Peter was baptized, made his sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Grade School class of 1968 and was a Boy Scout of America, Troop #38 (rank of Star). For many years he served Mass as an altar boy at this parish under direction of the Augustinian Recollect Friars who administered the parish at that time. It was then he felt the calling for priesthood. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1972 and entered the Monastery of St. Augustine Recollects in 1972; he graduated from Donnelly College in 1975 and Rockhurst College in 1977.
Jaramillo is from a family of eight, with two brothers presently deceased: (Mark A. Jaramillo a fallen Police Officer with Kansas City Police Department, and Frank Jaramillo from the US Treasury Department and Home Land Security and former Port Director of Ysidro-Otay Mesa Port in San Diego). His siblings are Anthony Jaramillo, Daniel Jaramillo, retired Shawnee County Sheriff Department, John Jaramillo, Mary E. Loya of Olathe, and Thomas M. Jaramillo of Topeka, KS.
In his civilian education, he received a Master of Divinity from Seton Hall University from Immaculate Conception Seminary in the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ. He earned an undergraduate degree with a BA from Rockhurst College, in KCMO. He obtained Clinical Pastoral education studies from Midwestern CPE Shawnee Mission, KS; graduated from FBI Citizens Academy in KCMO; the Good Shepherd Good Leaders Program from the Archdiocese of Kansas City, KS.
For many years of his priestly ministry, Fr. Jaramillo, has been very active in the Cursillo Movement, a Catholic spiritual and evangelization Movement in the USA. From 2010-2013 he held the position of National Cursillo Spiritual Advisor for the Cursillo Movement in the United States of America.

Fr. Peter is a retired Chaplain Colonel from the from the Kansas Army National Guard 30 November 2018. He was with the Guard for more than 21 years, his most recent assignment was his position as The Joint Force Headquarters State Chaplain for Kansas from 2015-2018 JFHQ in Topeka, KS.
Chaplain Jaramillo’s military education includes the Chaplain Officer Basic Course, Basic Chaplain Sustainment Training, Chaplain Officer Advanced Course in FT Jackson, SC and ILE (Intermediate Level Education) Command and General Staff College, Ft Gordon, GA. in September 2007.
His Decoration and Medals are: Legion of Merit, The Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal Army Achievement Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal w/two Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal w/Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/Mobilization Device Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal, Kansas National Guard Achievement Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ M-Device, German Sports Badge-Bronze. He has been enrolled in the honorable Order of St. Maurice Infantry Association.
Chaplain Jaramillo was promoted to Colonel in November 2015 and held the Joint Force Headquarters State Chaplain in Topeka Kansas from Nov. 2015-Nov 2018. CH Jaramillo held the Division Chaplain position for the 35th Infantry Division in Leavenworth, KS for the Kansas Army National Guard, from 2010-2015. He was the Brigade Chaplain with the 69th Troop Command from 2006-2009; and he was the Battalion chaplain with the 2-137th Infantry from 1998-2005.
In (2014-2015) CH Jaramillo was deployed for 6 months with KFOR19 to Kosovo as Brigade Chaplain for support to the 4-25th Artic Airborne Brigade from Alaska. In 2005-2006 CH Jaramillo while assigned with the 2-137th Infantry he deployed with them to Iraq as their Battalion Chaplain for Operation Iraqi Freedom under 3rd and 4th Infantry Division with the U.S. Army. While in Iraq, he was involved with his fellow Catholic chaplains in promoting the round tables for the Knights of Columbus for Catholic Soldiers who were his comrades in the Green Zone. In 2002, Chaplain Jaramillo was deployed as Battalion Chaplain to Germany for Task Force Santa Fe in Operation Enduring Freedom.
